The wavelength is the distance between equivalent points on the wave. This is illustrated by the two surfers who move along always exactly one wavelength apart, on the same part of the wave. The frequency is number of waves that pass a given point in unit time. This is shown by the seated surfer who bobs up and down as the waves pass. The frequency in Hertz is the number of time he does this in one second.
