Lecture 14: A new look into Heteroscedasticity
March 6, 2025 (8th week of classes)A new look into Heteroscedasticity
In this lecture, we will explore key aspects of model heteroscedasticity and methods for addressing it. While heteroscedasticity impacts model estimates and statistical tests—concepts we have previously covered—it is also a fundamental aspect of biological systems. Here, we will examine how variance can be studied and even interpreted as a biological phenomenon. This discussion will also lay the foundation for mixed models, a modern and widely used approach for handling heteroscedasticity, particularly in biological research.
